IPWEAnsw is now offering a Budgeting & Financial Management course as an E-learning module.

This practical course is suitable for public sector employees with financial responsibilities who wish to gain knowledge in budgeting principles, forecasting, cash flow management and monitoring performance.   The  course is delivered through a DVD and printed course material which enable you to upskill from the comfort of your home or office at your own pace.

It is time to renew membership of IPWEAvic for 2010/2011 finanical year.   Membership renewal notices for the 2010/2011 financial year have been sent to members. 

 Flexibility in payment of membership fees is available and you can use any of the following renewal options:

  • Fax the remittance advice including your credit card details to (03) 5250 3008
  • Post a cheque payable to: IPWEA vic  to PO Box 1254 Geelong 3220
  • Pay by direct debit into Commonwealth Bank Account.   Account No: 1014 5355, BSB: 063 633.  Remember to place an identifier such as your invoice number or name accompanying the direct debit payment

The Chairman and Trustees of the Municipal Engineering Foundation Victoria extend an invitation to all members of IPWEA Vic to attend an Awards Recognition Luncheon to be held at the Green Acres Golf Club, 51 Elm Grove, East Kew, 3102, from 12:00pm to 2:30pm on Friday 9th July 2010.  The luncheon hosted by the MEF (Vic) will provide a networking opportunity and acknowledge those members who have been granted Scholarship awards by the Foundation in 2010.

Dress code for the Green Acres Golf Club is smart casual.

IPWEAvic participated in the Victoria University Careers Fair held on 18 May 2010.  A cross section of Engineering students from all years were treated to a presentation on working in the public works sector upon graduation or in holiday employment.

The 2010 National Local Government Asset Management & Public Works Engineering Conference was held on 13 and 14 May 2010 hosted by MAV and IPWEAvic and supported by EA.  Due to the renovation of the old convention centre the conference was held at the unique Plaza Ballroom, Regent Theatre Collins St Melbourne.

Many delegates took full advantage of the exhibits.  On both days you could obtain a cartoon profile of yourself at the Pittney Bowes exibitors stand.  Coffee was provided at the Downer EDI stand.  Victoria University sponsored lunch for day one and provided packaged mints packaed in a way that had many using all their engineering abiltiy to access.  ‘US’ Utility Services sponsored the lunch on day 2 and much interest was generated around their new product. 

The conference opening address was given by Minister for Roads and Ports, Tim Pallis MP, and keynote speakers included

  • Stephen Alchin, Infrastructure Australia
  • Mark Harvey, Bureau f Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Ecomonics
  • Steve Gawler, International Council of Local Environmental Initiatives

 The event created ideal conditions for Networking which continuted at the Gala Dinner held on 13 May 2010 where the 2010 IPWEAvic Awards for Excellence were presented by Mark Varmalis, IPWEAvic President, in conjunction with John Truman, IPWEA National President.

Thanks go to confernece organisers John Hennessey from MAV and Geoff Glynn (Conference Chair) from IPWEAvic for their hard work.

Peter Maguire of Ridgeline HR gave a presentation to the Civil Construction Alliance Meeting (at which IPWEAvic is a member and holds representation) held on Friday 28 May 2010 on the performance of Fairwork Australia Legislation to date.

Worksafe is nearing completion of a Guide to Health & Safety in Government Procurement.  The Civil Construction Alliance (of which IPWEAvic is a member) heard an update  presentation on the guide from Geraldine Zeccola, Worksafe Government Sector, at its meeting on Friday 28 May 2010.  A copy of the presentation can be accessed here.
