The next IPWEAvic Gippsland Regional Meeting is scheduled for Friday 16th September 2011 from 10:45am until 12:30pm at Debritz Restaurant, West Gippsland Arts Centre, Civic Place Warragal.

  • Danley Construction Products Pty Ltd will showcase the Danley Safeguard Range and provide a demonstration in Civic Park. The Danley Safety System offers protection to both workers and the general public on or adjacent to construction sites and at high-profile public events.
  • Raj Manihar, Baw Baw Shire Council will present on “Small Scale Solar Power Systems – More Than Just Green Electricity”, a presentation he recently made to hte IPWEA National confnerece in Canberra

Danley Construction Products Pty Ltd have kindly agreed to sponsor lunch.

Please note that you do not need to be a member of the IPWEA to attend this meeting.

The next IPWEA Wimmera Mallee Regional Group Meeting is scheduled for 10am on Tuesday 16 August and  is to be held in the Wimmera Room, HRCC Civic Centre, Roberts Av, Horsham.  Items for discussion inlcude channel decommissioning, results of Regional Asset Management,  MERO’s meet the new Emergency Management (Fire) Co-Ordinator for WWSC, HSC, YSC and HRCC, Rhonda McNeil.

The IPWEAvic Board will attend the North-East reigonal Group meeting on 12th August in Shepparton at Greater Shepparton City Council, 90 Welsford St Shepparton, commencing at 12noon with a light luncheon.  Guest speaker, Peter Harriet, General Manager Asset Development at Greater Shepparton City, will share some of his thoughts on the key challenges facing the Public Works professionals in the coming years in regional Victoria.  The Minister for Local Government, Hon Jeanette Powell, who will be in Shepparton on this day, has also been invited to attend the meeting but as yet has not indicated if she can fit it into her tight schedule.  A draft agenda can be accessed here.

The Murray Goulburn Regional Group met on Friday 1 July 2011 at Boort.  After a presentation by Dial Before U Dig the group undertook a field trip to the “Cobram Olive” grove at Boort. Her the group was introduced to some 2,500 ha of olives and the self-driven machine that moves at 0.3km/hr along the rows shaking the trees to collect the olives at harvest time.

The Wimmera-Mallee Regional Group met on 14th June at Horsham.  At this meeting David Eltrigniham resigned as secretary to the group handing over the reigns to Martin Duke.   Colin Mibus took on the role of Chair for the meeting.

The Gippsland Regional Group met on Monday 27 June 2011 at Traralgon.  The meeting was sponsored by HDS Australia Pty Ltd.

  • Peter Edwards, Executive Engineer Traffic and Transport HDS Australia spoke to the group about Road Infrastructure Asset Management from a Safety Perspective.
  • Richard Brammall – Coordinator Civil Works Projects at Latrobe City Council presented the Hockey Pitch construction project in the grounds of Monash University Churchill which needed to comply with standards of playability and industry practices.
  • Linda Hasthorpe – Coordinator Infrastructure Planning at Latrobe City Council gave a brief overview on major projects, including the redevelopment of the leisure centre at Churchill, the Moe Southside Precinct and the Moe rail precinct revitalisation.

IPWEAvic Gippsland Regional Group will meet on Monday 27th June 2011 at  Macfarlane Burnet Room – Traralgon Service Centre, 34 – 38 Kay Street, Traralgon 11 am to 12noon followed by a light luncheon provided by HDS Australia.  Speakers at the meeting are

The Geelong Regional Group has orgnaised a site tour of the Eastern Beach Swimning Pool Construciton Project at 2pm on Thursday 26th May.  Dean Wearne (GHD) will give a short talk about the design issues that were encountered with this heritage project.

Members that would like to attend should assemble at Eastern Beach Swimming Pool,  2pm on Thursday 26 May 2011.  You will be observing from outside the site so no induction or PPE will be required.

The Asset Management Technical Reference Group will meet on Thursday 24th March 2011 between 1pm and 4pm upstairs at Best Point showroom Bridge Road Richmond.

Best Point will provide refreshments after the meeting.

Two speakers will feature at the meeting

Phil Edwards from Melbourne Water will speak on Stormwater Harvesting and Integrated Water Management.   He will discuss environmental protection, liveability, engineering solutions, and some life cycle comparisons between business as usual and off the shelf innovations.                                                                                                         

Jonathon Nielson from Walker Corporation will speak on the Latest trends in streetscape design and construction .  Case Study: WalkerCorporation is delivering an Urban Land Authority development at Point Cook.  The project will result in new assets and streetscape for the City of Wyndham that accord with the Project Brief and specification.
