The IAL-IPWEAvic Victorian Playing Fields Water Savings program Discussion Paper on the Victorian Playing Fields Water Savings Program, resulting from discussions at the workshop in Melbourne on 4 August 2010, has been released for discussion.   The Discussion Paper sets out the general agreements from the 4 August 2010 workshop, and proposes the detail of the program including proposed benchmarks and expectations of participants.   We are seeking your comments by 15 December 2010, with a view to refining the program based on feedback and commencing with interested participants from April 2011.  Download a copy of the paper here.

AAPA undertook an asphalt study tour of the USA earlier in the year.   The tour included 15 delegates from Australia and New Zealand and concentrated on sustainability and technology through warm mix asphalt, recycled asphalt, and pavement design.   IPWEA members are invited to joined AAPA for the Feedback Seminars. The Seminars are being held around Australia, and Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney. The brochure (Feedback Seminar Brochure v5) provides details of the Melbourne Seminar planned for 18th November at ARRB Auditorium, Vermont South at a cost of $60 per person.

The ‘Fundamentals of Transport Modelling’ workshop series had tremendous success when run previously in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth. We have now scheduled these to run in Canberra, Hobart, Adelaide and Auckland.

The Department of Transport released the Victorian Pedestrian Access Strategy in September 2010 setting out the Victorian Government’s vision for a more pedestrian-friendly transport system for Victorians. The aim of the strategy is to encourage more Victorians to walk, especially for short trips.  Infrastructure, planning and design, safety and behaviour change programs are included in the strategy which sets out broad policy principles and the first septs to guide the Victorian Government’s investment in walking over the next 10 years.  More people walking has the potential to help ease congestion, reduce greenhouse emissions, improve the health of Victorians and promote social connections.

IPWEAvic End of Year Luncheon is to be held on Friday 10th December 2010 at Malvern Valley Golf Club between 12noon and 2pm.  Cost is $65 for a 2 course christmas meal.  This event is the first in the IPWEAvic leadership speaker series. At this lunch two of our public works leaders will share some tips on how to become better leaders and advance your career.  All welcome.
