The Local Government Performance Reporting Framework (LGPRF) Indicator workbook version 4.0 has been updated and comments are now sought. Download a copy of the workbook HERE

Version 4.0 incorporates various changes to indicators and measures following results of data trial 2, submissions to the Regulatory Impact Statement and feedback from relevant State Departments. Changes in individual indicators and measures are outlined in Appendix B as well as marked up in track changes.

The workbook has been developed to support users in their understanding and use of the 71 quantitative (70 mandatory and 1 optional) and 24 qualitative indicators and measures which make up the LGPRF. It contains a description and rationale for each indicator and details of the measures including a definition, computation, permissible values, data sources for each element and explanation of key terms. This information is important to ensure the consistency, quality and accuracy of data provided by councils as part of reporting against the LGPRF.

Any comments or feedback in relation to version 4.0 should be directed to amelia.chapman@dtpli.vic.gov.au by 20 June 2014. A final designed and published version will be available in early July

Representing IPWEAvic, Board member Kim Sedgwick attended the official opening of the Downer Bayswater Asphalt Manufacturing Facility on Wednesday 21 May 2014.

BIM CPD in June and July

Getting Started with BIM: Have you been seriously considering implementing BIM within your organisation and are now asking ‘What do we do next’? This seminar covers the preparation and planning required by architectural or engineering personnel who want to make implementation happen. It provides generic guidance on the topic and discusses some of the decisions to be made and issues which need to be considered.

The NATSPEC BIM Protocol: This seminar is directed at clients and lead consultants on projects using BIM who want to avoid the cost of delays and re-works caused by poor definition of BIM requirements prior to calling for expressions of interest from consultants.  It explains how the Protocol can be used to clarify and describe the level of BIM implementation at the project’s outset, and how NATSPEC BIM documents can assist.

What’s happening in Australia?

NATSPEC has compiled details of BIM research and development projects being undertaken by Australian Government and industry organisations. The project details provide a resource for everyone involved with, or interested in, BIM R & D. The aim is to facilitate collaboration and avoid duplication of effort. This work was completed on behalf of the Australasian Procurement and Construction Council (APCC) and Australian Construction Industry Forum (ACIF). Download the details of all the projects at http://bim.natspec.org/index.php/research-development/bim-r-d-projects

Case studies?

If you have used any NATSPEC BIM documents on one of your projects, we would be interested to hear of your experiences.  Please contact Neil Greenstreet at bim@natspec.com.au or on 02 9321 7200 to discuss the possibility of using it as a case study.

A topical debate at present is the use of art work on the road pavement.  Differing points of view are found from a variety of road safety engineers and artists.

Take a look at some of the art works and debate in this article http://www.citylab.com/design/2014/02/how-make-crosswalk-more-delightful/8487/

Does the art work detract from the safety aspect of the road markings or enhance the streetscape….
